CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / ConSynSer / – Apple on Wednesday introduced an all-new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display, the first Mac to support touch input. The laptop comes in 14-inch and 16-inch models and uses tandem OLED technology. It is powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and offers up to 24 hours of battery life. Pre-orders opened on October 28, and the machines will reach customers from Friday, November 6.

The PROLED XDR display reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content. Apple said it delivers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a variable refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. The panel covers the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces and more than 80% of Rec. 2020. Each display is calibrated at the factory. A nano-texture option etched into the cover glass further reduces glare.
Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, called the new MacBook Pro a monumental step forward for the Mac. He said PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display, pairing tandem OLED with advanced algorithms in Apple’s display engine. Srouji said touch and the performance of M5 Pro and M5 Max give professionals a new way to work with their content. He credited the deep integration between Apple silicon, hardware and software.
Touch and Dynamic Island arrive on the Mac
The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple said reduces latency. Users can swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom, drag slides between presentations and double-tap a window to fill the screen. A redesigned hinge adds stability during touch use. Many existing apps work immediately because macOS translates touches into clicks. Apps such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Lightroom, Blender and Zoom will add touch support later this year.
The Dynamic Island, first seen on iPhone, also comes to the Mac. It hosts Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, letting users search, take calls or control music within easy reach. The laptop runs macOS 27, which includes Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI assistant. Siri AI can draw on personal context across messages, emails and photos, and answer questions on almost any topic. It is available in beta in macOS 27.2.
Lighter design with up to 128GB of memory
The 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pounds lighter. Both are thinner thanks to OLED’s more efficient display stack. The M5 Pro and M5 Max chips support up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple said M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at US$2,899, and the 16-inch model starts at US$3,399. M5 Max versions start at US$4,499 for the 14-inch and US$4,799 for the 16-inch. Pre-orders are open in 30 countries and regions. The laptop has three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack. It is made with 55% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminum in the enclosure.
